Samatian Island, Baringo
Self Catered
About Samatian Island
Samatian Island is one of the most unique homesteads available in Kenya, the whole place is on its own island in the middle of Lake Baringo, north of Nakuru. The small family-owned property has 4 airy, thatched rooms; 2 family rooms (with 1 king size bed and 3 single beds), with a delightful mess area, overlooking the lake. (10 people)
The other 2 smaller houses have 2 doubles bedroom each, which have 1 single bed in each room (12 people).
The house is rented out on a self-catering basis and can sleep groups of up to 22 people, it really is perfect. If you want fully catered, then that can be arranged for a group of 6 or above.
Should the rest and relaxation on the island not be your cup of tea, you have the option of water sports on the lake, boat trips to see the world-famous birdlife on Baringo, or to visit some of the local Njemps fishing communities on the lakeshore. All in all, we love Samatian, the privacy it offers, the quality of the finishing in the rooms, the only downside is the lake sometimes comes up and the resident owl population on the island can keep you up at night flying around and hooting, but it could be worse.
