About Red Pepper House
Red Pepper House, on Lamu Island, is a stone’s throw from Lamu town, but set in your own stunning little forest, directly on the water’s edge and is engulfed with local culture and tradition in immaculate finishing’s. The beauty of Red Pepper house is that you can take the whole place as 1 unit for a group of up to 10 people, or if you’re a smaller group, each room can be taken individually. All parts of Red Pepper have good wifi access.
Red Pepper has a central eating/mess area with a gorgeous pool and amazing views, a full contingent of staff including a cook who will cook up a storm for you from the fresh fish and seafood bought in every day. But if you prefer your meals in your room, in complete privacy, under the stars, then that can be arranged as well. The main area is where the culture of the Lamu people comes into its own with cultural dances being performed, or just take a dip in the gorgeous pool and watch the world go by. Each room or ‘nyumba’ comes with a lovely double or twin bed, en suite bathroom, living area under cover of a makuti ceiling. You also have a veranda to enjoy the amazing Lamu skies and stars and the sandy area where you can have your private dinners, with an open-air shower to rinse yourself off after your swim in the sea.
What about activities at Red Pepper? Well, the cultural dancers of Lamu can come and give you a show, enjoy Dhow rides in the waterways around the Lamu and try your hand at fishing in the creeks. If it’s the culture and history you’re looking for, head into Lamu town and take in the sights and sounds of this historic part of the coast.
A visit to Lamu, on the Northern part of the Kenyan Coast, is one of the best experiences the country has to offer. Landing at the airstrip on the mainland you take a boat taxi over to the island and experience Swahili culture like nowhere on earth. The island is steeped in Swahili history – spices, slaves and sultans – and the global connections this ancient trading hub has shaped. Transport on the narrow lanes is by donkey, or by boat around the island. Whether you want to stay in Lamu or Shela town and get swept away on culture and history or escape down to near-deserted Kizingoni beach and unbelievable skies and water sports, Lamu is the place and we have a house for you. Add to your experience by going deep-sea fishing off Lamu, or venture to Kiwayu. We can also set up overnight dhow experiences, sleeping on the deck of the traditional Arabian ship in decadent comfort and watching the night sky as you fall asleep…. Lamu really is incredible.
